Tire Pyrolysis Oil

Tire pyrolysis is a thermal recycling process that converts end-of-life tires into valuable industrial products through decomposition in an oxygen-free environment. From this process, three primary outputs are generated: Tire Pyrolysis Oil (TPO), Recovered Carbon Black (rCB), and Recovered Steel. Each product has distinct industrial value and plays an important role in the circular economy.

Description:

Tire Pyrolysis Oil (TPO) is a liquid fuel derived from the thermal decomposition of end-of-life tires in an oxygen-free environment. Through the pyrolysis process, complex hydrocarbons in rubber are broken down into valuable fuel fractions.

Key Characteristics:

  • Dark brown to black liquid

  • High calorific value (comparable to conventional furnace oil)

  • Can be further refined into diesel-like products

Applications:

  • Industrial furnace fuel

  • Boiler fuel

  • Power generation

  • Feedstock for refinery upgrading

  • Alternative marine fuel (after treatment)

TPO represents a circular energy solution by converting waste tires into reusable fuel energy.

Description:

Recovered Carbon Black (rCB) is a solid carbon-rich material produced during the pyrolysis of scrap tires. It is the residual char left after volatile components are extracted as oil and gas.

Key Characteristics:

  • Fine black powder or pelletized form

  • High carbon content

  • Reinforcing properties similar to virgin carbon black (depending on processing quality)

  • Requires grinding and upgrading for higher-grade applications

Applications:

  • Rubber manufacturing (partial replacement of virgin carbon black)

  • Plastic masterbatch

  • Asphalt modification

  • Pigments and coatings

  • Industrial fillers

rCB contributes to sustainability by reducing dependency on fossil-based virgin carbon black.

Description:

Recovered Steel is the metallic reinforcement extracted from tires during the pyrolysis and shredding process. Tires typically contain 10–15% high-tensile steel wire used for structural strength.

Key Characteristics:

  • High-strength steel wire

  • Magnetically separated from char residue

  • Recyclable as scrap metal

  • High melting efficiency

Applications:

  • Steel mills (re-melting)

  • Construction materials

  • Reinforcement wire products

  • General scrap metal recycling

Recovered steel closes the material loop by returning valuable metal back into industrial production.
